As an introvert, if you’ve ever found yourself pondering over whether or not you will find success because you don’t know how to successfully build relationships, communicate, or if you need tips on finding confidence, read on!
1. Become Self Aware
Learn as much about yourself as possible
Start by answering a few questions.
- What are your likes and dislikes?
- How do you adapt to new environments?
- How do you feel about a hyperactive job setting?
A great way to learn more about yourself is by taking a personality test.
Myers-Briggs Free Personality Test is a great place to start!
Use the information gathered to start applying yourself to situations where your strengths will be utilized.
If you were trying to choose the right job, start by analyzing the job description, researching about their work environment, check out their social media, and analyze the company environment during an interview!
In the job description, make sure to look out for terms that would highlight your attributes
- Such as, “detail oriented”, “creative”, or whatever your strengths are!
In this scenario, try mapping out what your ideal job would entail based on what you know about yourself. That way, you will perform at your very best throughout your employment.
Example of simple attributes you might want to find in your job:
- Small company for fewer interactions
- A lot of personal space as opposed to a tight-knit office space with open cubicles
- Little to no social events
The more you know about yourself, the more you can set yourself up for success. You know what makes you tick, so you know what you should stay away from and what you should run towards! You learn what type of environments you work best in, and types of people you like to be around. Finding out all of these attributes about yourself can help you steer into the direction of your desire.
2. Find Your Confidence
Introverts may initially come off as awkward and arrogant. This may be because they are uncomfortable in certain situations, so confidence is very important for an introvert to implement during interactions. Displaying confidence even in uncomfortable situations can allow others to gain a feeling of trust, especially in your leadership ability.
Start by taking small steps towards finding confidence, and in time it will become natural.
Body language is very important to be aware of. Keep your chest high, try to maintain great posture especially in the presence of other influential persons. Remember to seem approachable. Smiling, and looking around, addressing others with eye contact, and a confident handshake.
Wear clothes, do your makeup, put on some heels, do something that will make you feel confident about your appearance as well!
Have a few topics you could bring up memorized.
E.g “Did you see Donald Trump’s recent tweet? “ “Are you going to pirates week this year, its next month!” “Did you hear about what’s happening in California?”
Try to choose a topic you’re interested in to have the best outcome!
Maintaining your confidence amongst others is one of the best ways to: stand out in a room full of people, gain new connections, and guess what? Once you get this in check, you’ll be able to start climbing up the social ladder!
3. Memorize Your Elevator Speech, Practice It In Your Sleep
Elevator speeches are usually just a few sentences about who you are, your interests, and what you hope to achieve in life. It really doesn’t have to be long, so here are a few little tips to get you inspired!
- List a few of your best attributes, what you excel in career-wise, and exactly where you see yourself in 5 years.
E.g. “ Hey my name is Samantha, I’m so happy to see someone so passionate about the environment here tonight! I’ve been very active on Instagram sharing awareness of how daily activities can largely impact the environment! I hope to create a larger following to be able to do what you do and gain opportunities like talking to larger groups of people, educating, maybe even school speeches, or for your company! Wouldn’t that be great? “
This tip goes hand-in-hand with finding your confidence, but an elevator speech can really boost your self-esteem if you are less confident with your communication skills. Writing, strategizing, and practicing a speech in advance would be the perfect tip for introverts succeeding in social events. You will appear strong-minded and determined as an individual if you are able to pull off an excellent elevator speech.
4. Introverts Make Great Entrepreneurs
Our biggest skills as introverts lie with gathering our thoughts. With the analysis taken throughout interactions, introverts will successfully maneuver through situations once they have the opportunity to go through their thought process.
An introvert will take time to research and develop/hone their skills.
An introvert works better alone which is when they will produce their best content.
So, why not consider entrepreneurship? Start by researching how you could utilize your skills from home. How much income could you be getting, what platforms you could use to share your work, and make sure to interact with others in your field!
